i have mentioned this in a few popsts but wanted to share this on a new thread so that everyone can find out how easy and cheap it can be to go to college.. i am studying online with cuny (city university of ny).
tuition is $2165 per semester if you take 4 or more classes.
i only failed 2, Calculus and Chemistry
Calculus - wow, that's brave... never touched the stuff...
But I did take the chemistry test. I studied 3 weeks, read 800 pages, didn't understand most of it, but I squaked a passing score, although barely. I don't recommend that exam unless you're a diehard clepper...

There is the Phoenix University that has been advertised on this forum from time to time
Only prob is that'l cost you about 50k...
My degree is basically free.. Here's how to do it:
Costs:
25 Clep exams: about $1700
3 semesters tution: about $5500
Books:$ about $700
Total: $7900 in costs
In my favor:
Job's tuition assistance: $3000
Tax breaks (Hope credit, etc.): about $3800
Financial aid (free money from the gov't): $1560
Net costs for college: -$460 (that is a negative sign)
This doesn't count...
Raise in my salary since I was going to college: $5000, plus more when I graduate
Look on my face when I get that diploma: Priceless

I totally understand your experience leaving Bethel. I went through the same feelings. You go to Bethel a hero, and return an excuse for a man. It actually takes a lot of courage to deal with leaving Bethel suddenly and facing great changes.
Look forward to the resolution of the nosebleed (I hope its not bleeding anymore!)

As long as I was a Bethelite or Missionary, i felt the love. It was overwhelming. Once I was a mere publisher, ex-missionary... then... the love of the greater number cooled off...

I am studying online with CUNY (City University of NY). Tuition is $2165 per semester if you take 4 or more classes. (I am taking 6 this semester to finish up and graduate on June 10th.)
The beauty of this program is that they allow you to test out of many subjects using CLEP exams. I think many xJWs should be able to do pretty well on many of these exams and each exam you pass ($65 for a 90 minute exam) gives you 3 college credits. I took 25 exams, which saved me from over 2 1/2 years of college.

Working full-time I have been able to do the whole thing in a little over a year. Now that I don't go to meetings or service, I have even more time to study.

i have a "friend" and i say that loosely because i don't think that she is a good friend.
she only calls me when my husband is in town to do stuff with her, i.e.
go to lunch, etc.
I think you should be frank about it with your husband. Tell him you feelings... if he doesn't want to take your feelings into account and wants to keep on hanging out with this floozie, well....

i know this may be an annoying subject .
but if you did have to give up doing what you wanted in a career or opportunity - what was it ?
how controlling was the organization over you, and were you counseled by elders or higher ups to not pursue certain jobs, opportunities, college , etc - so that you stayed in the witnesses for awhile ; not doing what you wanted?

Yeah I got married not too long after that 1988 article. Imagine all the little kids that would be about 20 years old now and indoctrinated JW's had they let us have kids back then..

when i was 14 i decided to dissassociate myself.the elder flipped and met with me and my parents.i shared my feelings about the hypocrisy that i saw in the teachings and actions of the witnesses.i was assured that i simply needed to pray more and that i was too young to comprehend the incidents which had made such a negative impression on me.. .
then they went on to liken my feelings to a man who had a handful of diamonds but could only see the dust on them.. did you ever receive counsel that belittled the real issue?

Yeah when I was counseled about watching porn I also told them that I doubted some of the things taught. They dismissed my doubts and said that that was the influence of the porn.
Like that's gonna change my viewpoint on the non-Biblical basis of WT teachings about 1914, FDS, other sheep, organization, etc...
i've been lurking on this website for quite some time, but haven't quite gotten the strength to post until now.
for obvious reasons, i cannot reveal my identity.
although my "family" nows that i am no longer a witness and celebrates holidays, they still have "hope" for me.
